May 30 our biggest of the season

The fishing or should I say catching has only been fair with an occasional good trip and poor trip here and there.  Yesterday, May 30 on the morning trip we only produced a few keepers and shorts but had an exciting start with John Johansen's 10lb 2oz lunker. The afternoon trip produced a few more fish but still not what we can say is good.  Kevin Guierin of our town did manage 3 keepers and the pool on this still afternoon with no wind and slick calm waters as we watched the schools of bunkers get hit by big blues.  We are still waiting for another wave of fish as the waters are now starting to warm up.  Here are some pictures from the past week.  Thanks for looking in and hope to see you soon.

Past week to 5/25

Hi everybody, have not had too much to post as the fishing remains status quo with some shorts and  a few keepers each trip.  Missed a few trips due to the weather and not enough showing up to go out with. Last Sat 5/19 we had a decent catch for the way its been as we did yesterday, 5/25, when we actually ended up with more keepers than fares. John Mundjer took his limit  out of 6 keepers and  the morning pool with the last fish of the day of  6 lbs.  The afternoon was not as productive but Anestis Kapolas of Manalapan took the pool also with a 7 lber which was also the last fish of the day. Last Sunday morning Mack and his wife Clara of Dumont  had the top fish.  Here are some photos of some past trips.

Past week till Sat 5/12

Have not posted since opening day since the fishing (catching) has slowed a bit and we did not sail a few trips due to the weather and lack of participation.  I believe the cool weather this week had an effect on more fish moving in so the same areas that hold the fish are getting hit hard.  We did manage a few beauties along with the keepers and shorts we are catching this week,  like Doc's almost 9 lber that his partner Grace is holding, guess he is camera shy. Also on yesterday's afternoon trip Dave Fenandez  caught a 6 lb 2 0z flattie on the end of the last drift of the day. But not big enough to beat Joe Wavro's 9lb 8 oz pool winner and our biggest so far this season.  Tuesday does not look good this week but we are still trying to go every day, so hope to see you soon.

FLUKE Opening day 5/5/12

We had a surprisingly good turnout in the morning and the weatherman took care of the afternoon.  The fishing started off slow but we ended up putting a nice catch together.  Several guys got close to the limit and the action was spread around the boat.  Even the afternoon trip turned out better than expected with all the boats pounding the same area. Here are some pics of the morning catch for a couple of small groups of that combined their efforts and John Doll with 2 of his 4 keepers for the morning.

Saturday 4 /28 until today

Have not posted since Friday because the striped bass fishing has gotten tough to say the least.  On the other hand the blues have shown up in force so we  have been jigging them with an occasional bass mixed in.  Just a few more days till the Fluke season opens so we will stick with the bass and blues till then.  Today we clammed and managed a couple of bass with Bill Bergen finally getting his keeper along with a short and taking the pool.  Last Saturday, Alex, granddaughter of Pat Lamb, came up with the pool fish and her first striper.  Here are some pictures of her and some old ones from the prior week with winter flounder mixed in.
