11/9 Updated reports from past week

Well we just got things back on line to do reports. All in all it has been a tough week with the nice weather and trying to deal with the mass amount of small boats all trying to get to the same areas of fish on top. We did catch keeper and short stripers every trip and yesterday we got slammed with big blues in the mix.  It was great fun for a bunch of young boys that came on yesterday and I'm sure they slept well last night after battling big 10 - 18lb blues.  We are till trying to sail every day @ 7:30 AM for the bass until blackfish opens. Hope to see you this week and here are a few pics.

11/3 & 4 Tues /Weds Stripers

Got out on Tues with only a few patrons as we just switched to stripers and did not have a good day. We did much better today catching quite a few shorts and some keepers and a big blue. Bill Bergen was high hook with about a dozen shorts and a keeper.  Other keepers around the boat and many more shorts. Metal jigs and white shads were the best bet but fish were also caught on a jig head with a big gulp ( and we are not fluking).  The weather this week looks good so come on down and like I said before, a medium action spinning rod to cast and a heavier conventional rod  in case the drift gets too fast. Pick up some swimmer shads at your local bait store but we do have a few on the boat. Here are a few pics.

IT'S STRIPER TIME

Well as they say it's no use beating a dead horse so since we could not even get out on a nice weekend  bottom fishing (other than Sat with  not enough but went anyway), we will be switching to striped bass starting tomorrow,  Election day. Jigging and eeling  so bring spinning rods and a heavier one. We will fish for stripers until the black fish season opens unless the stripers disappear. Hope to see you soon and thanks for looking in.

Update to 10/30 & 31

The weather got us on Weds and Thurs with nobody going out but we were the only bottom boat on Friday and had a tough day until the last drop where we caught a few sea bass and some blackfish. Went back to that spot  today and despite the bad anchoring conditions we picked some keeper sea bass and a few blackfish. Then it got worse with no wind and tide so the anchors were slack and we tried a few drifts picking a few sea bass and a porgy(thought they were gone).  Tried another area with the same conditions but did catch a few black fish. the turnout has not been good with the bottom fishing so we may switch to striped bass this week as they are starting to catch a few. Give us a call  and here are a few pics.

Last few trips update to 10/27

We got out on Sunday and it was another rough one that made the anchoring difficult so we only picked at some fish but not good. Monday we had the Mater Dei high school kids for a half a day and they did get a nice day. Caught some sea bass, porgies and a couple of blackfish and they had a nice time. Back out on Tuesday we fished another area to find the anchoring not easy as the anchor lines never got tight but we did catch some big porgies and keeper sea bass along with a few blackfish and a cod fish that took the pool. We are not sailing Weds and Thurs with the weather and Friday is not looking good either as the seas will still be riled up  and we know what that does to the fishing. Hope to see you soon and here are a few pics.

Saturday 10/24 last half day

We went out this morning and as we turned the hook (sandy hook) it was not nice.
Big waves and some wind on the way out, not terrible but not nice.  Made a few drops to pick a few nice porgies and some sea bass but it was not good.  Was not looking forward to go back out and as it turned out we did not due to lack of patrons. We are now 3/4 day fishing leaving at 7:30 A M returning about 2:30 - 3 P M. On Monday 10/26 we have a half day trip but will have a group of high school kids aboard in the morning but not sailing the afternoon,  it is an open tip of you care to join us. See you soon and this time of year watch the weather for give us a call.

Thursday opening day

There was a good turnout for the all day bottom boats but we still got out with a small crowd.  We picked away at mostly porgies(go figure) but had some nice sea bass mixed in that we can now keep.  Made a few moves and the same result.  The porgies though, were of very nice size, especially on the afternoon trip. We will still be on the half day schedule a couple of more days before switching to 3/4 day leaving at 7:30 AM on  Sunday. Hope to see you soon and here are a few pics of the day's catch.

Schedule update

In case one has not looked at my home page we are still on the half day schedule until Saturday 10/24, last day for half day. Staring Sunday 10/25 we will be 3/4 day leaving at 7:30 A M, only because all the other boats leave at that time and we do not want you to show up at 7:45 to find out there is not enough to go out and the others have left. It will be only one trip per day returning about 2:30 -3 P M,(except for this Monday 10/26). We have a group coming on Monday morning for a half day trip if you care to come, but there will be a bunch of high school kids. Today Sea Bass opens so hope we can put some in the buckets. See you soon and thanks for looking in.

Weekend report - not good

We shaped up to get out both days but only made the Sunday morning trip with a handful of anglers. We tried in the bay where the fishing has been good but only a few shorts were caught. Moved out into the ocean and only caught a few keeper porgies and some sea bass that went back. Looks like the fish are moving out farther so we may have to switch to a 3/4 day schedule by the weekend, so give us a call before you come down. We will not be sailing Tuesday as the winds will kick up and it will not be too nice. Sea Bass opens on Thursday and they MAY be our last half day trips. We will keep you posted. Thanks for looking in.

Past week report

This past week has been a slow one with only a few fishermen showing up to go fishing, maybe they are waiting for the sea bass season to open (Oct 22).  Monday we had a good turnout with the holiday and the morning fishing was decent for the porgies. The rest of the week we got out a few mornings but not all of them and a couple of afternoons.  The morning trips have been better, with mostly porgies and the best of it is in the bay but in one small area. Yesterday morning we had a high hook of about a dozen nice porgies and almost everyone caught a few to take home. We are still on the half day schedule but give us a call next week if you plan on coming down. Hope to see you soon.

Sat/Sun reports

Due to the lack of patrons we did not make it out on Saturday morning and picked up a last minute charter for the afternoon (we do not normally take charters).  The fishing was not good even with at beautiful ocean that was not nice in the morning.  Picked a few porgies and even more sea bass, a winter flounder, blow fish, etc. We did have a beautiful sun set riding in and a nice group from GPS (plumbing supply) enjoyed the afternoon. Sunday we made both trips but staying in the bay where the fishing was better than the ocean. Had a pick of porgies for  the first couple of hours on both trips. We are still sailing the 2 half day trips this week so get a couple of friends or family together and come down. Here are a few pics.

Friday 10/9 found a few

We went in the morning to try another area and we did find a few.  We could only make one drop because the water started getting rough  with 20 -25 mph sough winds against the out going tide. But we picked away with everyone going home with some fish but unfortunately we had to throw quite a few sea bass back. I know if one angler who caught 18 black sea bass that he had to released but he did have a couple of porgies to take home.  So hopefully things will start to pick up again. Didn't take any pics and did not get out this morning but hope to see you soon as the week's weather looks good.  We will not be sailing on the afternoon trip today, Saturday,  but will be running tomorrow and the rest of the week still on the half day 2 trip schedule, so bring some friends so we have enough to get out.

Weds/Thurs reports - What did we expect

With a noreaster for two weeks and an off shore hurricane the ocean was not nice. Not rough but a big swell which is worse for fishing. Caught a  handful of porgies on the morning trip  on Weds after trying in the bay where we got them a week ago and decided to go the distance in the afternoon to the east reef of Rockaway NY where the fishing was good in the morning for the other boats. Fishing was a pick at mostly shorts but enough keepers mixed in to make it ok. This morning we shot right over there to find only a slow pick of mostly shorts and a couple of keepers. Not worth the ride so we stayed local only to find it worse. Some nice sea bass and small blackfish but no porgies as we tried different drops. Not sure what to expect for tomorrow but the afternoon does not look good with south winds kicking up so you may want to plan on a different afternoon to come down. Will let you know what tomorrow brings. Here is a pic of what we have to throw to throw back.

tues 10/6 It's been a week

Hi everybody, it has been a week since we sailed due to  the weather, but we are ready to go again. Only a few showed up today but we did have calls for tomorrow so we will be going and hopefully every day after that. But  again , just watch the weather and if you are not sure give us a call. Hope to see you on the dock as the next few days look fine and the ocean should start to lay down.

Tuesday 9/29 Porgy time

We did not make it out on Sunday or Monday but did on Tuesday morning. With just a handful of anglers we picked away at some nice size porgies and shorts along with mixed size sea bass that we can not keep. The weather was very nice and everyone went home with fish but the forecast scared the afternoon fishermen so we did not make it out. Nobody got out this morning but we will try this afternoon for the last trip till next week with the storm coming in. Maybe we will see you and here are a few pics.

Fri/Sat reports - the last fluke

On Friday no boats except the Sea Hunter (who had a large group coming) tried to go out being restricted on where to fish due to the weather. In the afternoon we were the only boat to try and got out with just enough to go. Conditions a little better with wind and tide together but the drift did get fast with 15-20 mph N E winds.  Picked a few shorts and keepers in a couple of different areas but it was not good although we did have a lady catching 2 keepers. On Saturday morning we were the only boat to light up and sail open ending up with a decent crowd while  telling everyone what the weather and fishing situation was and not to expect much. Same results catching a few keepers and shorts around the boat but it was cold and breezy.  In the afternoon we were again the only game in town so we sailed our last fluke trip of 2015. Jonathan Harmon took the pool but his dad was high hook with 2 keepers. Here are a few pics and remember we are now bottom fishing for porgies and blackfish on the same schedule. I do not know what to expect since we can not go into the ocean for a few more days, so we will try this morning to see. Call before you come down.
